TSS: Pick of the Month… well, Months
Happy Sunday, all! I realized recently that I’ve been terribly, terribly remiss in announcing my pick of the month for June… and May… and April. (and March.) Somehow it just seemed to get away from me for the past third of a year (sidebar: how the heck is it already double-digits July? I was not consulted about this, and I do not approve.) But let’s remedy that, shall we?
So if we’re being accurate about things, it’s actually picks of the month. Each month, my two picks were both very good, and very different from each other… it’s impossible to pick just one!
March Mirror Dance by Lois McMaster Bujold The Likeness by Tana French |
|
April POD by Stephen Wallenfels Poison by Sara Poole |
|
May Old Man’s War by John Scalzi Joy for Beginners by Erica Bauermeister |
|
June A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold The Map of Time by Félix J. Palma |
What about you, readers? What’s the best book(s) you’ve read in the past month(s)?

Love THE LIKENESS! One of my all-time faves.
Lenore – It’s a serious contender for my yearly top 5, for sure.
Probably the best book I’ve read so far this year was Unbroken by Lauren Hillenbrand. I think it might be running in for best book of the year too. I read it earlier in the year, but haven’t come across a book as good yet. Of course, when you’ve only read 25 books, it makes it a lot easier.
unfinished – Hmm, I read Seabiscuit about a million years ago, but I haven’t thought to pick up Unbroken yet. That’s quite a recommendation, though… I’ll have to check it out!
I recently read Joy for Beginners and loved it as well. Another recent winner for me was The Help.
Kathy – Everybody raves about The Help, and it’s been on my wishlist for a long time, but I never seem to get around to picking up a copy.
Great picks. Thanks for sharing. I need to read POISON
Carolina – For sure! There are some cheap copies at Amazon at the moment, it looks like…
I really want to read The Map of Time! As for The Likeness, I am not at all surprised you chose it as a favorite!
Lola – I let The Likeness sit on my TBR pile for an unconscionably long time, even after loving In the Woods, then when I finally got to it, I was berating myself for waiting so long!
Lots of good looking book there! Several of them I really want to read but haven’t got around to, yet!
I also don’t know where the year is going..
Kailana – Seriously! Wasn’t it 2009, like, three weeks ago? :)
I’ve been reading very little this year which has been recently published. My favourite book of June was probably A Tale of Two Cities!
Ela – I’ve been trying to read more off my backlist, which includes older books, but they just keep getting swamped by new arrivals! Still, A Tale of Two Cities has to be a classic for a reason, so maybe it’s not surprising that it was a favorite?
