January 2017 Wrap-Up: Books and Reviews

February 10, 2017

Ye Grande Olde TBR(e) Challenge Update

I started January with 213 unread books sitting around my house. And I ended with … *drumroll* …213! As predicted, this semester is busy busy busy (as evidenced by the fact that I’m not getting January’s wrap-up posted until midway through February, and I STILL haven’t posted my 2016 Year in Review). But I’m doing a little bit better at keeping up with my reading; I realized early in the month that I could be listening to an audiobook while I’m walking my dog, so that reclaimed about an hour or an hour and a half of listening time every day, so I can plow through some books even when I don’t have the time to sit and get absorbed in a paper book.

…anyways, let’s take a look at the breakdown:

Neutral books – Read, but don’t affect the TBR pile

Audiobooks
Yes Please by Amy Poehler*
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness*
Sea Hearts by Margo Lanagan
Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch (reviews coming soon)

Read But Not Owned (Books)
Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew’d by Alan Bradley
Heartless by Marissa Meyer (reviews coming soon)

Re-Reads
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling

Changes to the TBR pile

Added and then read (um… huzzah?)
March, Books 1-3 by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell (reviews coming soon)

Added to my eTBR pile (non-storage-space-related shame!)
Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff
* Pursuant to the discussion on this post, I’ve decided to create an eTBR pile for e-books and audiobooks that I accept for review or for which I actually pay money. I’m not adding them into my total TBR numbers, but I have to fess up about them somewhere. Keeps me honest.

It’s hard to find time to read, given all the other things we have to get done in one day. It’s a nice trick with the audiobooks…I might give that a try while doing housework…

Nice to see a post from you! I have the March Trilogy, too. I had read book 1 before, but I started a reread of it last night to read on!
