December 2014 Monthly Wrap-Up: Books and Reviews

January 1, 2015

Ye Grande Olde TBR(e) Challenge Update

I started December with 245 unread books sitting around my house. And I ended with … *drumroll* …246! Not too shabby – although I think it’s because my family knows me too well and has seen my TBR book cases, so I got very, very few books from them for Christmas. (Although my SantaThing books haven’t arrived yet, so that’s going to make my January pile pretty substantial.) I didn’t get as much reading done over the holidays as I was hoping, between finals and trying to get spring semester together… but with enough travel, I got a couple of books taken down. AND, for the first time in probably the whole year, I got myself caught up on reviews… and then promptly finished a few more books. Something to work on in the new year!

…anyways, let’s take a look at the breakdown:

Neutral books – Read, but don’t affect the TBR pile

Read But Not Owned (Books)
Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carriger
Corsets and Clockwork: Thirteen Steampunk Romances by Trisha Telep
E-Books
Attachments* by Rainbow Rowell
Re-Reads
The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Changes to the TBR pile

Read from my TBR pile (huzzah!)
The Kitchen Counter Cooking School: How a Few Simple Lessons Transformed Nine Culinary Novices into Fearless Home Cooks by Kathleen Flinn
Lives in Ruins: Archaeologists and the Seductive Lure of Human Rubble by Marilyn Johnson
Non-TBR acquisitions (storage-space-related shame!)
500 Breads: Breakfast Breads, Pizza Crusts, Roll, Scones, Bagels & More by Carol Beckerman
Added to my TBR pile (all-around shame!)
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll & Camille Rose Garcia (this is a quasi-TBR, since I’ve read the text before. But pretty new illustrations!) In Real Life by Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang
The Sasquatch Hunter’s Almanac by Sharma Shields
Added to my eTBR pile (non-storage-space-related shame!)
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie * Pursuant to the discussion on this post, I’ve decided to create an eTBR pile for e-books for which I actually pay money. I’m not adding them into my total TBR numbers, but I have to fess up about them somewhere. Keeps me honest.

Oh, that’s funny, I just finished re-reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Didn’t love it but I liked it…shorter than I remembered!
