December 2013 Wrap-Up: Books and Reviews

January 1, 2014

Good morning, and Happy New Year, all! I hope everyone’s holidays have been festive, fun, and safe! I’ll do my 2013 year-end wrap-up post later this week, but here’s just for the month of December.

Ye Grande Olde TBR(e) Challenge Update

I started December with 257 unread books sitting around my house. And I ended with … *drumroll* …259! Not bad for for a month that includes Christmas AND the end of the semester AND a whole bunch of my library holds all coming in at once. I was insanely busy most of the month, but I managed to squeeze in a fair bit of reading regardless. Not as much as I’d like – never as much as I’d like – but not bad, either. Plus, I know the first part of January is going to be crazypants insane, but hopefully I can at least sort of keep up the pace in the new year.

…anyways, let’s take a look at the breakdown:

Neutral books – Read, but don’t affect the TBR pile

Audiobooks
All Clear by Connie Willis
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

Read But Not Owned (Books)
Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris
The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling

Read But Not Owned (Graphic Novels)
Cardboard by Doug TenNapel
Ghostopolis by Doug TenNapel
A Matter of Life by Jeffrey Brown
Zebrafish by Sharon Emerson

Re-Reads
Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold

Changes to the TBR pile

Read from my TBR pile (huzzah!)
XO Orpheus: Fifty New Myths ed. by Kate Bernheimer
The Boleyn Deceit by Laura Andersen

Added to my TBR pile (all-around shame!)
The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett Restoration by Olaf Olafsson
Among Others by Jo Walton (Finally got my own copy, after having it on my wishlist for years! Ana, Jenny, Memory, and Gavin‘s faults) Dangerous Women ed. by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois

Added to my eTBR pile (non-storage-space-related shame!)
Shadow Magic by Patricia C. Wrede * Pursuant to the discussion on this post, I’ve decided to create an eTBR pile for e-books for which I actually pay money. I’m not adding them into my total TBR numbers, but I have to fess up about them somewhere. Keeps me honest.

I really want to read Dangerous Women. I should have got it with my Christmas gift cards, but maybe I will wait and get it for Once Upon a Time. :)

Kailana – Me too! Although I also bought Warriors and haven’t read it yet.

eTBR? I have been quite good about not amassing ebooks by whim but I should somehow find out just how many I do have. I’m even better about Audiobooks. I only seem to buy-immediately-listen to those.

Care – I get almost all of my audiobooks from the library or for review so those are quick listens. And I don’t keep track of freebie ebooks – way, way too many of those.
