TSS: Upcoming book blogging events, and my probable lack of participation therein

September 12, 2010

The Sunday Salon.comHappy Sunday, all!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend; I spent yesterday enjoying the rainy weather by reading, napping, reading some more, and trying to get caught up on my backlog of reviews (3 down; 3 – soon to be 4 – to go).

There’s a bunch of book bloggish events coming up in the next few weeks, in which my participation will sadly be limited, mostly due to that pesky mistress, Bad Timing.

Tomorrow starts Book Blogger Appreciation Week. Signups for BBAW this year came right smack in the middle of my dissertating crunch, and I just did not have the mental energy to do anything at that point other than slap my name and URL on the sign-up form. I’ll try to get posts on some of the daily topics up, but I’ve got other bookish things (i.e. finishing up my reviews before books are due back to the library) that take priority.

However, I encourage everyone else to participate. There are so many book blogs out there – the book blogs search engine has topped 1,300 – and BBAW is a fun way to run across some new favorites. …Also, speaking of the book blogs search engine, this week would be an excellent time to make sure you’re included on the list, n’est pas? (And maybe also an excellent time to give it a mention on your own blog? I’m sure everybody’s got readers who don’t routinely read my blog and therefore aren’t already on the list. The offer of free unicorn rides to anyone who plugs the search engine still stands.)

Also coming up on October 9th-10th is the 24-hour read-a-thon. I am super-bummed I’m missing this one – I always have so much fun during the readathon – but prior engagements call! I’ll try to read as much as I can that day, for solidarity’s sake, but I doubt I’ll be able to post much if at all. Ah, well. I’ll catch the April one.

I am excited about both events. They’re my faves.

Speaking of time for appreciation, The Book Blogs Search Engine is THE BEST!!! You deserve many kudos for setting it up!

Seriously, the Book Blogs Search Engine rocks, and may even have been how I discovered your blog? Or maybe not. I can’t remember. But I do remember finding you very intimidating because you were such a book-blogs-search-engine-making rock star. :p

Jenny – First comment I have from you is on my review of Black Powder War… not saying that you didn’t get there by way of the BBSE, though.

Also, I find it really amusing that anyone could find me intimidating at all. :)

I will definitely promote the Book Blogger Search Engine sometime this week- it’s one of the most useful things I’ve ever used. (I use it at least once a week!) Thank you for making it!

I am so excited about BBAW and the read-a-thon!

Aw, too bad you have to miss out. I always miss the readathon in Spring, but I’m so excited for the October one! Real life just keeps getting in the way doesn’t it? :)

Trisha – It’s always true! Stupid real life. :)

I hope you do get a chance to participate at least one day in BBAW! (or enter a giveaway or two. :)

I’ll post about the book blogs search engine this week if you like.

Amy – That’d be great, thank you! The community just keeps growing, and I can’t keep up unless people help me out by letting me know about their new blogs.

I’ll remember to mention the book blogs search engine at some point – it’s awesome! I’m looking forward to BBAW this week; I hope it’s a lot of fun.

Just do what you can during BBAW – there’s no pressure. It’s just a week to celebrate book blogs.

  10. September 12, 2010 6:06 pm

My timing is horrible for BBAW and the read-a-thon this time around, but I’m going to try and visit as many blogs as I can. I will definitely include the search engine in a post sometime soon!

Happy BBAW whatever level of participation! Your search engine is the BEST.
    :)
