Sunday Salon: Sound the trumpets!

June 6, 2010

The Sunday Salon.comHappy Sunday, all!

And my, oh, my, is it ever a happy Sunday. Because, as you may have guessed by the fact that I’m posting here again, my dissertation has been handed in!

Now, that doesn’t mean I’m a doctor yet. My defense is not for another few weeks, and then I’ll have to do revisions, etc. This was just me handing in my dissertation for my committee to read pre-defense, but it does mean that I’ve got what I feel is a defensible dissertation written, and it also means that I get to take a bit of a break after the huge writing-and-editing extravaganza of the last few weeks.

It’s a strange feeling… I’ve been working so hard for so long that now I’m kind of at loose ends, where it feels like I should be doing something at all times and it’s hard to get myself to just sit still and relax. It’s also a little weird to see the Beastie all done and printed; in the single-spaced, double-sided version I printed for myself, it fits in a 1/2″ binder with room to spare, and is sort of like “That’s it?!? That little thing is what all the stress was about?” Of course, the single-sided, double-spaced version is an entirely different story…

Back in bookblogging world, I’ve got eight reviews to write. (Eep!) Six of those are for graphic novels, though, and I think I’m going to do a series of two-fer posts… partly so that you guys are not drowning in graphic novel reviews, and partly because I don’t have a lot to say about any of them individually, so I can fit thoughts about two of them into single post. I’m not going to be back up to full blogging strength yet – I have to prep for my defense, and go back to my stack o’ job applications – but it’s nice to have at least some free time available to read and to blog.

In any case, I really appreciate everyone who left me encouraging comments, and especially everyone who stuck around through the two weeks of silence. Y’all are awesome.
