TSS: Too busy writing

May 16, 2010

The Sunday Salon.comHappy Sunday, all!

Today’s note will be very, very quick. I haven’t been around here (or anywhere else on the internets) very much recently, since I’ve been chugging away on the home stretch of my dissertation, and I’ve barely had time to read anything, let alone spend time blogging. Thank goodness for the read-a-thon giving me a backlog of reviews to post, or else things would have been very quiet around here indeed.

I’m also grateful for the backlog because the book I’m currently reading is a serious chunkster – probably bigger than anything I’ve read since the Outlander series. It’s The Passage by Justin Cronin, and despite its size, it’s moving pretty quickly – it’s wicked compelling thus far, which is ordinarily a good thing, except when I have to put it down and get back to work on my thesis chapter! I also have another chunkster checked out from the library and waiting for my attention – Guy Gavriel Kay’s new book Under Heaven – so between the fatty-fat books and me working like fury, I suspect I will burn through my backlog in no time.

But! The light at the end of the tunnel is a’comimg! Dissertation or bust!

Good luck with your dissertation! I can only imagine how much work you have to put into it, but we’ll be there when you’re done.

I really want to read The Passage too. Hopefully my preorder will arrive quick!

I just started Guy Gavriel Kay’s The Summer Tree this morning… good luck on your dissertation!

Omni – Is this your first time reading Guy Gavriel Kay? The Summer Tree is not my favorite of his works – it’s got some first-book-ish rough edges – but there are scenes from that book that are still incredibly vivid in my mind even though it’s been a few years since I’ve read it.

Here’s to a wonderful dissertation – and lots of time to finish The Passage when you’re done – I loved it. :)

Good luck! And inspired by you, I also picked up my copy of The Passage this morning! (but I’m so sure I won’t be similarly inspired to go for a degree….)

I really really want to get my hands on a copy of The Passage. I’m so jealous!

    Good luck with the dissertation.
