TSS: Snowy Sunday
We didn’t get nearly as much snow as other parts of the country did during the recent Snowpocalypse, but it’s enough to make me feel like curling up and hibernating… so that’s what I’ve been doing all morning. I probably should have gotten up and gone to the gym and gone in and done a little work, but instead I curled up with a big mug of tea and a knitted afghan, and finished the book I’ve been working on for the past few days, Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton.
I say “working on”, and maybe that was the case yesterday, but today I got totally sucked into the story and zipped through 200 pages like it was nothing. I’ve got a bit of a backlog, so the review won’t be up until next week, but it’s this totally charming blend of Austen-esque Victoriana and dragons, and it left me wanting to do nothing so much as pop in the Pride and Prejudice DVDs and snicker to myself all afternoon imagining Colin Firth as a dragon… but I probably should be a responsible grown-up and bundle up and go work out and run the errands I didn’t get to yesterday (due to the library being closed because of Snowmegeddon.) Phooey.
Tooth and Claw? I’ve been wanting to read that for ages! I cannot wait for your review.
Omni – It’ll be a while. I’m not sure how I managed to build up such a review backlog, but it’s up at over a week at this point.
It sounds like you’ve been having a lovely time today. Sometimes we have to throw off what’s “good” for us or seems like a more productive use of our time and read instead.
Amber – And really, reading is productive and good for us too, right?
We didn’t get any snow, but we did get 4 1/2 inches of rain out of that storm.
bermudaonion – Yikes! Everybody got their scuba equipement in order?
I think we got about a foot total. At least the roads are completely clear today. I needed to get out of the house after the past couple of days.
LitHouse – Yeah, I can see getting a little bit cabin-fever-y after a while with as much snow as you got. Mine wasn’t enough to force me to stay inside, just enough to make me want to. :)
Okay, I have got to read Walton. Maybe I should start with this one…
Gavin – This was my first of her books, but now I’m definitely interested to read some more.
Errands are no fun. Down with errands! It is better to read. I’ve never heard of this Jo Walton book but I’m totally intrigued now! Looking forward to your (next-week) review!
Jenny – I was kind of shocked to see how little-known Jo Walton is, given how many people I think would enjoy her book(s).
–> Austen-esque Victoriana and dragons!!
sounds fun.
