December Wrap-Up: Books and Reviews

January 1, 2010

Happy 2010, everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves last night, and is recovering swiftly today. In the meantime, I thought I’d wrap up the damage I managed to do during December… I’ll save the 2009 wrap-up for this weekend.

Ye Grande Olde TBR(e) Challenge Update

I started December with 238 unread books sitting around my house. And I ended with … *drumroll* … 245! Could have been better – I spent too much time with library books and not enough time with my own TBR stack -but could have been way worse, too.

…anyways, let’s take a look at the breakdown:

Neutral books – Read, but don’t affect the TBR pile

Audiobooks
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Read but not owned
A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris
Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris
BtVS S8, Vol. 5: Predators and Prey by Joss Whedon
A Bigamist’s Daughter by Alice McDermott
Rapture of the Deep: Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, Soldier, Sailor, Mermaid, Spy by L. A. Meyer
Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud

Re-reads
None this month.

Changes to the TBR pile

Cleared from my TBR pile (huzzah!)
From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris
The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin

Added to, then promptly cleared from my TBR pile (um… huzzah?)
None this month.

Other removals from my TBR pile (meh?)
None this month.

Added to my TBR pile (shame!)
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrless (either Darla’s or Nymeth’s fault, I can’t remember)
A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony
The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism, Fantasy, and the History of Comic Book Heroines by Mike Madrid
Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey
Captivate by Carrie Jones
Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton
Why We Do It: Rethinking Sex and the Selfish Gene by Niles Eldredge
Everything Matters! by Ron Currie, Jr.

Other Non-TBR Book Acquisitions
Tomato Rhapsody by Adam Schell (signed!)
Mix Shake Stir by Danny Meyer (bermudaonion’s fault)
Pints & Purls: Portable Projects for the Social Knitter by Karida Collins and Libby Bruce (Okie Librarian’s fault)

I read The Secret History many years ago (before I started blogging, so most of the details are lost) but I remember really enjoying it.

I’ve heard some mixed reviews, but the people who love it seem to really love it, so I though I’d give it a try.

I haven’t counted how many books exactly are on my shelves that I haven’t read yet, but I know it’s about 400, and I know that I added more to my shelves than I read or got rid of this year. If only I could read faster.

      Alyce – I don’t think there’s any of us that don’t wish that. :)

Happy new year! I hope you’ll get a chance to read “Lud-in-the-mist” and enjoy it when you do. It’s a gorgeous thing.

Shanra – I’m looking forward to it. Don’t know when I’m going to *get* to it, but I’m looking forward to it. :)

Is that a Xanth novel I spy? My word it’s ages since I read one of those!

It is! I asked my LT secret santa for fantasy authors that they loved but that I hadn’t encountered yet, and that’s one of what I got.
