Sunday Salon: Look at what you’ve done!
Happy Sunday, all!
I just want you all to stop and take a moment to think about what you’ve done. Namely, this:
That’s the graph of page hits for the Book Blogs Search Engine page. (Not the search engine itself, just the listing page). See that spike over on the right? That’s BBAW. That’s also more than a third of the traffic that that page has EVER received, all during one week. Huge thank yous to everyone who stopped by during BBAW, double huge thanks yous to everyone who stopped by and decided to stick around, and triple huge thank yous (and unicorn rides) to everyone who mentioned the search engine on their own sites.
I’ve gone through and added in all of the sites that were suggested during BBAW, with the result that the search engine now searches OVER 1000 blook blogs… that’s INSANE, and it’s only going to grow from here! If you’re a book blogger, and don’t see yourself on the listing, please drop me a comment and let me know! (There are some more sites that have been suggested in the past week that I haven’t gotten the chance to include yet, but I will, for sure.)
I’ve been pretty busy this week, both with normal work stuff and with trying to finally, finally clear my backlog of reviews. I’m still several reviews behind, but that’s okay… it’ll give me stuff to post over the next few weeks while I get totally lost in my newest piece of library loot. I was so excited when I picked this up yesterday, I practically skipped away from the checkout desk.
What could possibly make me so excited, you ask?
I’ll give you a hint, in the form of my top search terms over this past week:
There’s more where that came from… a full *half* of my search traffic this past week was some permutation looking for A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
So, yeah, as you probably guessed, I was first on my library’s hold list for a copy of the newly-released An Echo in the Bone. The thing’s a beast, though… 800+ pages is going to take me a while. Although, if someone breaks into my house while I’m reading, I can probably use it to bludgeon them into unconsciousness, so there’s always that.

Kailana – I’ve only been waiting about a year… I can’t imagine the people who have been reading the series since the beginning.
Thank you for all the work you have put in on the search engine. It is such a great tool – I use it all the time! I am so pleased that more people are discovering how great it is.

Gavin – My pleasure! I actually started it because I was too lazy to pick through regular google results, so the fact that it’s widely useful is an incredible bonus.
I so want to read Gabaldon’s new novel! I’m only hesitating because I read all the previous ones in French, and I’d love to re-read them in English before I read the most recent one… Anyway, I do hope you’ll enjoy this one! The good thing about 800 pages is that, when the book is good, it’s good for a looong time!

kay – That’s interesting… I wonder if your perception of the story/characters will change based on what language you read it in?
Lucky! I’m still waiting for my library to catalog the book and I’m wondering what the holdup is. Secretly I think the librarians are all reading the book first while it’s in “cataloging.” :)
Alyce – And that right there is the main reason I could never work as a librarian… no books would ever make it out to the patrons! :)
