Sunday Salon: Ka-powie!

July 5, 2009

The Sunday Salon.comHappy 4th of July weekend, everyone! Or, Happy belated Canada Day! Or, happy very early Bastille Day! Or, Happy Independence Day to any readers from Algeria, Cape Verde, or Venezuela! Or… well, happy Sunday, all!

It’s been a lazy weekend here so far… a lot of rain, some reading, some writing, some DVD watching, a brief detour to the bookstore, some more rain, some working, a bit of grilling, some setting off fireworks in the rain, and today, probably more reading, more writing, more rain, and more movie-watching. Sounds like a plan.

How about you, readers? Anything big, fun, celebratory, and potentially explosive for you this weekend?

Happy belated 4th of July! On Friday night I went to a jazz festival that turned out to be more on the level of a Latin festival. There weren’t really any explosions, but it was an awful lot of fun. :)

Memory – Ooh, that does sound like fun. Was there dancing?

I had dinner in a completely empty Italian restaurant with two of my friends, and then we went and watched the death of the American dream in Revolutionary Road. In retrospect this was not the 4th-of-July-iest 4th of July I’ve ever spent.

LOL… potentially explosive is a funny choice of words. Actually, our church had an old-fashioned kind of picnic with a watermelon-eating contest and my middle child ate a whole one. All I could think of was that scene from the movie Stand By Me. I sure hope there’s no explosions!

I completely forgot about the Fourth! I spent the day helping my future d-i-l burn cds for the wedding next weekend!

We saw the movie “Moon” with Sam Rockwell. It is amazing. See it in a theater if you can.

There were lots of BIG fireworks in the neighborhood last night. I had to drug the dog! Have a great week.

We had a nice day yesterday until the fireworks started. They totally freaked our dog out even though I’d gotten a sedative for her.

Jenny – Hee hee hee! I spent last year’s 4th in Canada, so I know the feeling.

thekoolaidmom – Wow. I love me some watermelon, but the thought of eating a whole one in one sitting is making me slightly ill.

Debbie – Well, as long as nothing exploded, sounds like a good day. :)

Gavin – I haven’t heard of “Moon” – I’ll have to do some investigating and see if it’s playing around here.

bermudaonion – Aww, puppy! Growing up, our dog would hide under the bed during the 4th, even though we didn’t live particularly near where the fireworks were going off.

I had a fun 4th. Pancake breakfast & parade, barbeque at the house w/friends & fam.

    Mari – Me too. :)

We just blew things up. Nothing exciting. Love your photo. :)

Nancy – Thanks! It was raining on and off, so I didn’t have the camera out much, but I at least got a few decent shots!
