Sunday Salon: Reading Funk
Blech. I’ve spent the past three days in a complete and utter reading funk – I don’t think I read a single word of fiction between late Wednesday night and this morning; a combination of busy days and insomniatic nights leads to me being too out of it to bring my brain to bear on the printed (or even spoken) word, and I so wind up staring glassy-eyed at the internet or a DVD, missing my books but having no motivation to go pick them up.
After a decent (if Nyquil-fueled) night of sleep, though, I was able to polish off The Glister by John Burnside, so that review will be coming soon. In the meantime, though, I’m not sure what to pick up next. I’ve got lots of ARCs that I need to get to, but I feel that reading them with my brain only 30% engaged is not really giving them the fair shake that’s implicit in my agreeing to review them. Eh, I’m sure somewhere in my giant TBR pile is something fluffy that won’t require too much concentration. Hopefully this phase passes quickly, because, as I said: Blech.
I hope you’re feeling better and out of your funk soon.
Sorry to hear about your reading funk. I hope it passes soon!
I saw the “Blech” on your post and was sure it was associated with the picture posted of “The Glister”!!! (which actually captures my reaction to the book pretty accurately!).
Hope you feel better soon!!!
I’ve gone into those reading funks. They are awful. I hope you get out of it soon. Happy Sunday!
I don’t have insomnia, but I’ve definitely been too tired to read and unable to fall asleep before. It’s so frustrating. I hope you get out of your funk soon!
I hope you feel better soon and are able to get out of the reading funk! I’m hoping that doesn’t happen to me this week because I woke up with a sore throat this morning.
sorry to hear about the reading funk, hope it passes soon :)
Thanks all! I think the funk was about half not getting enough sleep, and half the start of getting sick again… blech! But I’m on the mend, and was able to get in some good reading time yesterday. I appreciate all of the kind wishes, though!
