Blogging Awards

I need to take some time out to say thank you to some of my wonderful fellow bloggers who have nominated me for blogging awards recently.

The Literate Housewife nominated me for this award, saying “This has got to be the most beautiful blog I visit. Not only is it just nice to look at, the variety of books reviewed is really nice. I’m bound to find something here I haven’t seen elsewhere.”

Literate Housewife has a lovely blog, very easy to navigate and with a lot of very thoughtful reviews. She’s also very good at fostering interesting discussions about books, and she’s starting (re-starting?) an online book club that I suspect is going to be great.

Koolaid Mom at In the Shadow of Mt. TBR says: “Fyrefly’s Book Blog always has a variety of books, and has added to my wishlist and, at the same time, put the breaks on Mt. TBR through her Ye Grande Olde TBR(e) Challenge that I’ve also joined… just can’t seem to put the breaks on the ARC requesting… try as I might!”

Oh, man, I’m trying, but I’m failing… although I can’t stop myself from mooching, rather than ARC requesting. My plan is to post a challenge update on the first of the month… and it’s not going to be pretty. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with an addiction, though. :-D Additionally, Koolaid Mom’s reviews strike a great balance between information about the book and information about her own reaction, and are always fun to read.

Devourer of Books says: “Probably the second blog I added to my reader. She has really organized, thoughtful reviews and made the fantastic reading tracking sheet that I could not live without. The only reason I’m only nominating her for one award is that I know Literate Housewife nominated her for the Excellence award as well.”

Dev’s blog is great, full of information, reviews, author interviews, and contests, and always has a great variety of books that I wouldn’t be exposed to otherwise. The reading tracking sheet she mentions is an Excel worksheet that I made up that lets you track books consumed over time – it was available for download at mediafire, but apparently that link isn’t working anymore. I’ll look into getting a new version hosted somewhere – particularly because I’ve made the changes that Dev asked for that let you tally up audiobook time separately from page count.

Shana at Literarily says: “I’ve been following Fyrefly for a while now. I love the design of her site. I think it’s a great idea to number your reviews and besides enjoying the reviews, I like the format: how she notes when she read the book, how many pages, the genre, etc.”

Literarily was a relatively new blog to me, but I’m glad I found it! (or that she found me!) In the short time I’ve been reading, my TBR list has already grown by leaps and bounds.

I’ve never been a big fan of chain-letters, either in physical or internet-meme form, so I’m going to be curmudgeonly and not play by the rules proper. Of course, this means the sick kid is not going to get his name into the Guiness Book of World Records, and that I will not be receiving $64,000 in quarters in my mailbox over the next few weeks.

But, I have had fun browsing other people’s nominees (although if it’s possible for Google Reader to burst at the seams from over-filling with book blogs, I might be coming close!), so I thought I’d mention some of the blogs that I read (apart from the four above, who definitely deserve kudos in return!), particularly those that I haven’t seen tapped elsewhere. This is not an official “tap”: take the award logo, or don’t; nominate others, or don’t; but at the least, take the self-esteem boost from knowing that I look forward to reading your posts.

Bloggin’ ‘Bout Books – her posts and reviews always make me smile, and I love that she grades her books.

A Chain of Letters has a talent for succinctly summarizing complicated plots that I can only dream of matching, plus I find a lot more fantasy books that I absolutely need to read through these reviews than I do anywhere else on my list.

Maw Books Blog has been mentioned before by other awardees, but her blog is good enough that it’s worth mentioning again. Not only are her reviews great, but she does a lot to make them about more than just books, and her site has a TON on information, some of which I’m sure I haven’t even found yet.

The Written Word reviews an interesting mix of books, and posts pictures of her actual books, which I think is a great idea, and makes her posts a lot more personal and interesting.

So, again, a huge thank you to everyone who nominated me, and happy reading (of books, and blogs about books!) to everyone else!

Awww…I’m so behind on blog reading that I didn’t even realize you had mentioned me in your blog. Thanks so much! I enjoy your blog, too!
