Tony DiTerlizzi & Holly Black – The Seeing Stone

April 11, 2008

47. The Seeing Stone by Tony DiTerlizzi & Holly Black (2003)
The Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 2

Length: 108 pages

Genre: Childrens; Fantasy

Started: 11 April 2008
Finished: 11 April 2008

Summary: Jared finds a stone that will let him see all of the magical creatures described in Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You… in just enough time to see his brother Simon kidnapped by goblins.

Review: Everything I said about the first one is still true – charming, funny, realistic characters, creepy tone and story, lovely illustrations. Very imaginative adventure story that owes a lot to the folklore tradition but is unlike most other juvenile fantasy books out there. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Recommendation: Worth reading, as if anyone who’s read the first one really has any choice in the matter.

First Line: The late bus dropped Jared Grace off at the bottom of his street.
