NOTE: New Young-Adult Fantasy Series with Upcoming Blog Tour

April 8, 2008

I first heard about this via the LibraryThing forums, but author J. Scott Savage and his publisher, Shadow Mountain, have put together a very cool program – he’s got 400 advance copies of his upcoming book, Farworld: Water, to give out, and he’s doing it in a combination of giveaways, a blog tour (which is a term I’d never heard before, but strikes me as a very good idea), and more giveaways.

The idea is that he sends 200 of the copies to bloggers around the web (well, the US and Canadian web). They read and review the book, and submit questions to him. He answers the questions, and the review, questions, and answers appear on the various blogs. Each of those bloggers also runs a contest to pick one of their readers (that means *you*, darlings) to receive a free advance copy of the book as well. Here’s his blog post explaining the process more clearly than I just did.

I am very pumped for this whole process, since it combines quite a few of my favorite things: books, acquiring new books, acquiring new free books, writing book reviews, writing book reviews in advance of publication, reading books, reading young-adult books, reading fantasy books… and something else… oh yeah, new free pre-publication young adult fantasy book to review! Did I mention that?

In any case, if you have your own blog and would like in on the action, check out the author’s blog post; otherwise, keep watching here for the review, questions & answers, and whatever contest I decide to run (and if you have any ideas on this last point, please let me know) – time frame is probably mid- to late-summer.

Have you got an email back from the author yet? He was very prompt responding to me and seems quite nice

Not yet, but I *just* sent him an e-mail about three minutes ago, so I think I’ll give him a little more time. :)

Oooh, pick me as the first person to respond who isn’t already getting the book!
