Note: I’ve taken down the huge list of sites included in the search engine. It made sense to have the full list readily available back in the early days of the search engine, when it only included a hundred or so sites. Now that the number of included sites is over eighteen hundred, the full list is unwieldy, unnecessary, and a pain to keep updated.

What this means for bloggers:
If you want to see if your site is included in the search engine, here are the steps:
1. Go to the Book Blogs Search Engine.
2. Type in “site:YOUR URL WITHOUT THE HTTP” and something that you know you’ve blogged about. For example, I would type in “site:fyreflybooks.wordpress.com gaiman” (without the quotes).
3. If that search turns up any results, congratulations, you’re in the search! If not, please leave a comment below and I’ll add you.

A few caveats:
1. This search engine is meant for personal book blogs only. If your site is corporate, commercial, or obviously trying to sell me something, I’m not going to add it; that’s what regular Google is for.
2. If you type your address incorrectly, I’m not going to try to hunt down the correct one. Please double check!
3. You don’t have to blog solely about books, of course, but if I go to your blog and I don’t see a single book review on the front page, I’m not going to add you. I don’t mean to be a jerk about this; I’m sure your writing/publishing/whatever blog is great, this just isn’t the place for it.
4. If you do not see your comment immediately, don’t panic! First-time commenters are moderated, and my spam filter gets tetchy about comments with links. I check pretty regularly, and I’ll catch it.

I maintain this list on my spare time, so I can’t promise that new sites will get added immediately, but I usually do updates at least once every few months.

What this means for authors/publicists/etc.:
If you’re looking for book reviewers to whom you can pitch your latest book, using the search engine as a search is a more efficient way to go about it than clicking alphabetically down the big list. Just search for a few titles that you consider similar to your book, see which bloggers are coming up in the search results as having reviewed (and liked) them, et voila! A customized, targeted list of bloggers that are predisposed to enjoy your book!
